Hello Region 1!!
Hope everyone is doing well. My sincere thanks goes out to you
all who have come for the Region 1 Meeting, making it a success!!
With beautiful weather, good company, interesting lectures and
hands-on workshops, I couldn’t ask for more! I hope everyone
enjoyed it as much as I did. For those who missed out, not to
worry, there’s more to come next year.
I’m open to suggestions for lecture topics, locations for
meeting, information on vendors who might be willing to sponsor,
as well as comments and concerns. Please don’t hesitate
to contact me. Anyone who has already voiced their comments and
concerns, rest assure that I will keep these in mind as I work
towards next year’s conference.
For a few quick reminders: (1) I’d like everyone who is
up for their membership renewal to follow through with their application,
and, (2) anyone interested in going to the National ASATT Conference
can still register so please come join us in our meeting.
Finally, as the weather warms up, I’d like to wish you
all and your families, a safe, happy & healthy summer!!!

Summer is here and now the complaints about the heat will begin.
Needless to say the fun has just started. In our region we had
2 successful meetings that were well attended. I hope everyone
is making their plans to attend our Annual Educational Conference
and Business Meeting in Orlando in October. With the price of
gas, maybe this would be the time to take your family vacation
in conjunction with the meeting. I will also be traveling to North
Dakota in July for my home town celebration of 125 years. July
is also the time for membership renewal and exercising your right
to vote for your society officers. Voting this year is by online
ballot only – no need for a trip to the Post Office for
stamps. I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable summer and to
see you in Orlando. WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN.

Next stop, Orlando! Everyone should be getting their final plans
made for the annual meeting being held in Orlando, Florida, October
16-19. It looks like a great line-up of speakers and there will
be at least 30 vendors displaying their products. If you’ve
never been to a national meeting, now is the time. Bring the whole
family a few days early, or plan to stay a couple days after,
and enjoy the area attractions as you earn your CE’s.
Half the year is already gone and re-certification time will
be here before you know it. Now is a good time to make sure you
have all your CE’s (20 for technicians and 30 for technologists)
and the proper paperwork together. We have had a lot of trouble
with people trying to send in falsified documents, so beware,
all certificates, documents, and sign-in attendance sheets are
being verified by the re-certification committee. To assure that
your re-certification goes through quickly, please make sure that
all your paperwork has the proper contact information for verification.
If it can not be verified, it will not count.
Our joint regional meeting with the South Carolina Society of
Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians which was held in Florence,
SC n June 21 & 22 was a great success, thanks to Teresa Alston
and her crew at McLeod Regional Medical Center. We have no more
regional meetings planned for their year, but are working on 2
one-day meetings for next year in Georgia and Florida. I’ll
keep you posted on those as the plans are made.
Have a great summer!
Darlene Bolick

Region 4 Meeting
April 26, 2008
Elmbrook Memorial Hospital
Brookfield, WI
Hello to all of Region 4:
Well here we are in middle of Summer in the Midwest! It has been
a year of extreme challenges with the weather in our area, I hope
you all have made it through and are healthy.
The Region 4 Meeting was held in SE Wisconsin in April, and it
was a great educational meeting. We had great support from our
vendors. We had several new faces this year, which was so nice
to see, and as always many attendees that have attended in the
past. It was a nice group, I saw some good interacting going on,
which I think is one of the benefits of these regional meetings.
If you have not attended one of these regional meetings, please
give it some consideration in the future.
As I have said in many of my reports and at the last few meetings,
that I would not be running for Regional Director this year. Those
of you who are members already know that I am not running for
Regional Director, which is old news. NEW news is that I am running
for President Elect. I was approached by a few members who asked
me to consider this position. After much thought and consideration,
I accepted the nomination. I feel the correct time is now; I have
a good feel for what is going on in the organization.
At this time I would like to Thank all who supported me as the
Region 4 Director for the past 6 years, it has been a pleasure
representing each of you. Also I would ask for your continued
support as I run for President Elect, if you so chose.
Please think about becoming more involved in ASATT, it is has
been very fulfilling both personally and professionally.
PLEASE, PLEASE, send in your nomination of Regional Educational
Award. It is due NOW!!
Once again thank you for allowing me to represent you,
Mary McGavock LPN, Cer.A.T

Region
5
Essie Davis, Cer.A.T.
E-Mail: Essieldavis@yahoo.com
As the new ASATT Region 5 director, I am excited to announce
that I held my very first meeting and it was extremely successful!
The meeting was held June 7th at The Methodist Hospital in the
Texas Medical Center in Houston Texas. This meeting offered 6
CE credits and attracted anesthesia technicians from the entire
Region 5 area.
Technology, medicine and anesthesia change constantly. The type
of work anesthesia technicians did years ago may not exist today.
This assembly consisted of a great deal of innovative, educational,
and informative topics that are incredibly useful to anesthesia
technicians. I sincerely hope that the anesthesia technicians
that attended the meeting received good education and information
that was valuable to use.
My sincere thanks to our vendors and sponsors for helping us
have a victorious meeting this year! The vendors were: Belmont
Industries, Pall Medical, Organon, Vital Signs Baxter, GE Medical,
King Systems, Somanetics, Medline, LMA, CVC, Sonosite, Masimo,
Kentec Medical, Intersurgical Inc, and Life Tech Inc.
Thank you
Essie

Region 6 members! Just a reminder that there is still time to
Register for the ASATT 19th Annual meeting. It is being held in
Orlando and should be a very exciting destination for you and
your family!
I will update the Website with some educational opportunities
later, but they may not be in time for CE's if you need them this
year.
I encourage you to submit an original article for the Science
& Technology award. This article is submitted to Maretta Grandona
to be published in the Sensor, which then makes you eligible for
the $1500 award for best article. Hey! I know there are a lot
of smart techs out there! Why not share all those smarts with
the rest of us!?
Hope to see some of you soon.

Howzit Region 7!!!
The Portland, Oregon Meeting was held at Providence Saint Vincent
on Saturday, April 19th in the Souther Auditorium. There were
55 Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians in attendance of the
meeting. More than half of the attendees drove down from the Seattle,
WA area. Denise Carrara and Kelly Hines did a great job coordinating
the meeting and Providence was an excellent place to hold the
meeting.
I’d like to thank the fantastic speakers, who did a fantastic
job presenting their topics.

or the national meeting. It is just months away and if you plan
to attend you will receive 12 contact hours. If you are thinking
about it, start planning, it will be hosted at Buena Vista Palace
Hotel & Space in Orlando, Florida. Take a look at the website;
www: buenovistapalace.com. The hotel is situated in the heart
of Downtown Disney close to many restaurants and fun places to
see.
Don’t forget we must start looking at nominees for the
Region 7 Educational Award. This is the award sponsored by ASATT
to recognize anyone within our region who has helped further the
education of anesthesia technicians and technologists. Please
take a look at colleagues or vendors who have help you become
a better/smarter Anesthesia Technician.
