If you forgot to recertify in December, now is your chance to get in at the last minute. I am planning on having the meeting in June or July in New Hampshire.
Still no word on the meeting in Atlantic City. I will keep you updated as to when we have any new information that you will need. Hope the holidays were good to you.

January and 2010 is here. I hope this up-date finds everyone rested and ready for the New Year.

We are still working on the plans for the meeting in Charleston May 2nd. I have been informed that Sue Christian and her techs will be having a meeting April 24th at Vanderbilt. I think this is great for our region. These 2 meetings are almost from one end of the region to the other. This is good for the whole region. Yes, they are only a week apart, but depending on the area of the region you live in one is going to be much closer than the other. So now you have 2 meetings to choose from.

I want everyone to start thinking about an educational award recipient for this region. Think about whom has played a big part in our region. Who has helped sponsor an educational program or lecture? Let’s try and think outside of the box of sales reps and vendors.

Hope to have all the information ready for both meetings by the first of February. Start planning now.

I hope everyone had a happy and healthy Holiday season.  It comes and goes so quickly we almost forget the real reason for celebrating.  If you are looking for a great winter project to delve into, studying for the ASATT Certification exam would be an excellent choice.  Not only could it get you a possible pay increase (depending on your place of employment), but you would have the satisfaction of proving to yourself that you ARE knowledgeable in your field and it would make you more marketable should you decide to move or look for employment at another facility.   Winter is a good time to catch up on your reading, and preparing for sitting the Certification exam would be an excellent choice.

I have our Region 4 spring conference scheduled for April 17, 2010.  Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin has graciously agreed to host this one day event and plans are under way for some great Anesthesia related topics with some excellent speakers.  Plus the city itself has so much to do and see.  I hope many members will be able to attend.   Watch the ASATT website for further details.   If anyone has any requests or suggestions for the meeting, or any other concerns please feel free to contact me by email at zellfam2@tds.net.

Now that 2009 has passed us like a blur, we need to focus on 2010.  I hope that most of you had a great year and are looking forward to a better one.  But, I also know that some have not had such a great one.  Look on the bright side, things will get better.  Personally, I did not have such a great year and I am looking to having a better 2010.

As we turn the page on 2009, I would like to thank all of you for your support over the past few years.  I look forward to the region having another fantastic year in 2010.  To help it become successful, I would like to establish attendance records our regional meetings.  The first meeting is set for Saturday, April 17th in Portland, Oregon at Oregon Health Sciences University and the second is tentatively set for Sunday, August 8th at Hilton Prince Kuhio Hotel in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii.  I hope to have enough speakers so that we will be able to offer seven contact hours at each meeting.  So, those who live in our region please start talking to your favorite physicians and or speakers, in the Portland area.  Don’t put off talking to these speakers, check with them now.  It would be great to get confirmed speakers early.  Also, please start talking to your vendors about attending/sponsoring our meetings.  As you all know, without their support we would not be able to have these meetings at reasonable cost. 

Hopefully our economic picture will change, but everyone is facing some sort of financial impact.  So talk to the sponsors now before they commit their funds to other worthy organizations of efforts. 

It is not too early to start planning to attend the Annual Educational Conference and Business Meeting in San Diego, California.  San Diego will be the closest site to our region until San Francisco 2013.  Start looking at airfares, they will still be fairly low and will rise as the time goes on.  Traditionally, you have been able to get 13 CE’s at this meeting.  Attend one regional meeting and the annual meeting and you will be close to fulfilling all of your requirements to recertify as an Anesthesia Technician in one year.  The bonus for members, you don’t even have to track these ASATT sponsored meetings.   

If this was your year to recertify, I hope that you have already submitted your packet.  The deadline just passed and you have until the end of January with a late fee.  DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.  If you are short contact hours you may not make the deadlines.  Desperate people do desperate things.  Please do not do something that you will regret later.
