The Recertification period for the cycle ending 12-31-2007 is closed. If you failed to submit the requested documentation in order to renew your recertification by the January 31, 2008 deadline, it is unfortunate, but you are no longer certified. Please note, if your employer contacts us for verification, as is now required by Joint Commission, we are obligated to tell them you are no longer certified. In order to regain the certification designation, you will need to retake the certification exam.

Important update regarding recertification!

It has been discovered that several state societies (not all) were not meeting the ASATT guidelines for awarding CE’s that could be used towards recertification. It also was brought to our attention that some state societies were issuing certificates that were blank. This allowed for one of two things to happen: the certificate could be reproduced and passed out to other technicians to use for CE’s, or the individual “added” CE’s to the certificate that they actually did not earn.

Since many technicians use these meetings as a primary source of CE’s for recertification, it was felt that it was not fair for them to think they had the needed number of CE’s for recertification, only to be told at the end of the year that those meetings did not meet the criteria and that they did not have the 20 or 30 CE’s needed for recertification.

During the Board of Director’s business meeting in San Francisco, the Board voted and unanimously approved that as of January 1, 2008, we will no longer accept CE’s earned by attending individual state society meetings unless prior approval from ASATT has been obtained.

If you attended a meeting other than one that has been sponsored by ASATT, the South Carolina Society of Anesthesia Technicians (SCSAT) or the Rocky Mountain Society of Anesthesia Technicians and Technologists (RMSATT) those CE’s will not be accepted, unless prior approval from the ASATT Education Committee was received. This will be in effect for the 12-31-2008 recertification cycle.

We regret the inconvenience that this will cause anesthesia technicians looking for local education meetings to earn CE’s. Before registering and paying for these meetings, please inquire whether or not ASATT prior approval has been given. If you opt to attend the course and submit CE’s from these meetings, please be aware that you are gambling with your certification status.

The ASATT Certification Examinations are offered as Computer-Based Tests and will be offered almost year round in over 100 locations. Administration for this began MAY 20th, 2002, and certification booklets are available here! For further information on the new format please contact ASATT Headquarters at (414)908-4942 ext 123 or email us certification@asatt.org.
